Shrimps

Shrimps are crustacean from order Decapoda with elongated bodies and a primarily swimming mode of locomotion. They swim forward by paddling their pleopods (swimmerets).

They comprised of covering stalk-eyed, with long, narrow muscular tails, long whiskers (antennae) and slender legs. Compared to crabs and lobster, shrimp tends to have thin, fragile legs which use primarily for perching.

Shrimp are abundant and widespread in the ocean. They can be found in various type of areas including sandy shore, rocky areas, estuaries and in freshwater. In order to protect themselves from the predators, shrimp mostly dig themselves into the seafloor sediment.

Shrimp usually found solitary, however they can form large schools during spawning season. They play important roles in the food chain as the food source for larger animals such as crabs, fishes and whales.
