Angelfish

This type of fish which belongs to family Pomacanthidae, commonly found in shallow reefs of Tropical Atlantic, Indian and mostly western Pacific Ocean. The taxonomy of this fish breaks down further into approximately 7 genera and 86 species.

A species of angelfish that can be found in Kapas is the Blue Ring Angelfish. The juveniles of this species are bluish-black with a series of narrow white and blue bars on the sides. Meanwhile the adult presence with captivating body color, which are golden brown to orange body with diagonal blue lines to the sides, and has a blue ring behind the eyes. They also have a white with bright yellow margin on the caudal fin, and an elongated dorsal fin.

Since angelfishes feeds on benthic organisms such as algae, sponges, zooplankton, worms and other small invertebrates, they helps in regulating the prey population. This fish is also a source of food for various predators such as sharks and groupers, making them an essential component in the reef food chain.
